Find All the Cells Having Conditional Formatting in Google Sheets

Have you ever wondered how to easily view or find all the cells with conditional formatting rules applied in Google Sheets? While it may be easy to view them individually, selecting all of them at once is not currently supported. Unfortunately, Google Sheets lacks certain features like the “Go to > Special > Conditional Formats” option found in Excel. As an avid user of both platforms, I truly miss this feature, along with Goal Seek and Formula Auditing.

But worry not, my dear friends! I have a quick tip to help you find all the cells that have conditional formatting applied. Let’s dive right into it!

How to Select Entire Cells in Google Sheets

To start, you’ll need to select the entire range of cells in your Google Sheet. You can do this by either using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A in Windows or ⌘ + A in Mac. Alternatively, you can simply click on the select all button located on the top left corner of your Spreadsheet.

View All the Conditional Formattings Applied in a Sheet

Once you’ve selected all the cells in your Sheet, navigate to the Format menu and click on Conditional Formatting. This action will open up a sidebar panel where you’ll be able to see all the conditional formatting rules that have been applied.

Hover your mouse pointer over any rule, and you’ll notice a light green color border around the cells that have that specific rule. This makes it easy to visually identify all the cells with conditional formatting at once by simply hovering through each rule.

From the sidebar conditional format rules panel, you’ll also have the ability to edit, delete, and change the order of the rules. It’s a powerful tool that puts you in control of how your data is visually represented. How cool is that?

Now that you’ve mastered this handy trick, go ahead and enjoy exploring all the possibilities that Google Sheets has to offer. And remember, if you ever need to create a new Google Sheets file in a flash, simply type sheets.new in the address bar of your browser and hit enter!
