Are you struggling with entering text in Google Sheets? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! In this article, we will show you the simplest and quickest way to enter down in Google Sheets. You’ll be a pro in just a few clicks!

How to Enter a New Line with the Enter Key

When you have a lot of text in a cell, it can be challenging to keep it organized. That’s where entering a new line comes in handy. Follow these steps to effortlessly break up your text:

1. Double click the cell containing the text

Start by double-clicking the cell that contains the text you want to format. Notice how the cell highlights and the mouse cursor turns into a flashing text cursor when hovering over the text.

In our example, let’s consider the cell B3, which has a long string of text. Double click this cell to proceed.

2. Click the part of the text where you want to enter the new line

Next, click the area of text where you want to insert the new line. You’ll see the flashing text cursor appear precisely where you clicked.

Assuming we want to add a new line between the words a and Google in our text, we can click the area between these two words.

3. Press and hold the Ctrl key (Cmd ⌘ key on Mac) + Enter to insert a new line

Now for the magic step! While holding the Ctrl key (Cmd ⌘ key on Mac), press the Enter key. Voila! A new line is inserted at the chosen area, and the rest of the text shifts to the line below.

In our example, the line is added after « …value in a, » and the remaining text starts on a new line.

4. Click outside of the cell or press Enter to see the results

To see the results, click outside of the cell or simply press the Enter key. You will witness the new line beautifully added to your text.

Take a look at our example, and you’ll notice the line has been successfully added.
