How to Use This Habit Tracking Tool on Google Sheets

Traditional habit trackers usually focus on daily habits. However, while managing my blog, I realized that there were many tasks that I only did once a week, twice a week, or even once a month. Even though they are not true “habits” in the strict sense, I wanted to track this routine. I wanted to visualize how often I pinned on Pinterest or how frequently I wrote blog articles.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned from blogging, it’s perseverance. You have to keep at it because results won’t come overnight. So many people start a blog but give up within a few months. Or, many people think they’ve been working hard on their side-hustle, only to realize weeks later that they haven’t published anything in all that time. It’s a bit like going to the gym – if you ask an average person how often they go, they might say 3 to 4 times a week. But when you check their history, you realize they rarely go more than twice a week!

It’s this motivation that led me to create this habit tracking tool, which I personally use to track my professional goals. However, if you want to use it to develop personal habits like “meditating every day,” you can customize this free template by removing the lines corresponding to weekly and monthly habits.

You’ll be able to see at a glance how many checkboxes you’ve ticked off throughout the month. Plus, there’s a bonus sheet included in this template! In the “Progress” tab, it will automatically count the number of checkboxes ticked for that habit. This way, you can set a goal to determine how often you want to achieve it. Maybe you have a health goal of running 4 times a week. You can indicate in the goals that it would be around 16 runs per month. This will allow you to easily measure your progress at a glance and see if you’re really hitting those 4 sessions per week.
