If you need to analyze financial data, chances are you’ll have to analyze multiple data ranges to find trends that emerge over time. To visualize them easily, you’ll need to create charts that show multiple trends.

Reverse Columns and Rows

Formatting the data so that Google Sheets can create an appropriate multi-range chart may be necessary. To reverse columns and rows, follow these steps:

Step 1: Look for an empty space in the spreadsheet and select a cell in that area.

Step 2: In the selected cell, type the following formula: =transpose(). Then, select the cells you want to reverse.

Step 3: Press Enter.

You can either hide or delete the original rows. However, if you delete the original rows, the reversed rows will also disappear! To keep the reversed rows, you can follow our tutorial here.

Create a Graph with Multiple Data Ranges

In this section, we’ll learn how to create a line graph with multiple data ranges in Google Sheets.

Let’s start with the same set of data, but with some adjustments to make it more readable.

Now, here are the steps:

Step 1: Format your data into rows and columns so that you can create a chart.

The TRANSPOSE function can be very helpful here if you want to move columns and rows.

Step 2: Select the data to include in the chart, including the headers.

Step 3: Click on Insert in the file menu, then click on Chart.

Voila! A line graph now appears. We still need to improve it. As you can see, a Chart Editor tab appears in the top right corner.

To change the title, you can follow these steps:

Step 4: Format your newly created chart in the Chart Editor.

Click on the text box under Chart title in the Chart Editor tab on the right. Then, enter the title of the graph.

The graph title is left-aligned by default. To center it, click on the Align symbol under Title format (the button with four lines and a down-pointing arrow). Then, click on the Center symbol.

Your graph title is now centered!

The Chart Editor tab also contains additional customizable settings to enhance the graph. For example, you can:

  • Modify the chart color
  • Add a legend
  • Change the axis scale
  • And much more!

As always, feel free to explore the Chart Editor tab to find the best chart design for your data.

And there you have it! You now know how to create a graph with multiple data ranges in Google Sheets.
