The Copying Process in a Few Simple Steps

  1. Right-click on the sheet you want to copy.
  2. A context menu will appear. Hover over the “Copy to” option.
  3. Another menu will pop up. Choose either “New spreadsheet” or “Existing spreadsheet”.
  4. If you choose “Existing spreadsheet”, search for the appropriate file.
  5. Open the destination file to see your copied sheet.

That’s it! It’s as simple as that! Now, you can enjoy your new sheet in your file or worksheet.

How to Copy a Sheet to a New Worksheet in Google Sheets

Let’s take a concrete example. Suppose we have a sheet in Google Sheets that contains student data, as well as a chart representing the distribution of grades between boys and girls in a class. We want to copy this sheet to another Google Sheets file.

To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Right-click on the sheet you want to copy (click near the sheet name).
  2. A small context menu will appear.
  3. Hover over the “Copy to” option, as shown below.
  4. Choose to copy your sheet to a new Google spreadsheet or an existing spreadsheet.

If you choose “New spreadsheet”, Google Sheets will create a new file and copy the sheet into it (you will then have the option to open the new file).

If you choose “Existing spreadsheet”, you will have the option to search for the file where you want to copy the sheet. A menu will appear to help you easily find the appropriate file.

After copying the sheet following the steps described above, you will see a notification saying “Sheet copy successful”. Click on “Open spreadsheet” and then on “OK”.

When you view the destination file, you will find an exact copy of the original sheet.

This is a simple yet extremely useful trick for copying sheets in Google Sheets. I use it constantly in my own projects, and it saves me valuable time.
