Are you tired of scrolling through endless sheets or workbooks in Excel and Google Sheets? Do you want to quickly navigate between different parts of the same document or jump to separate documents altogether? Look no further! In this article, we’ll show you how to create hyperlinks to another sheet or workbook, making your life a whole lot easier.

Link to another sheet

In Excel, creating a hyperlink to a cell in another sheet is a breeze. Let’s say you have the value “25” in cell A1 of the sheet “Sheet1” and you want to create a hyperlink to that cell in the sheet “Sheet2.”

  1. Go to the other sheet (Sheet2), right-click on the cell where you want to insert the hyperlink (A1), and click on “Link.”
  2. In the “Insert Hyperlink” window, (1) select “Place in this Document,” (2) choose the sheet you want to link to (Sheet1), (3) enter the cell you want to link to (A1), (4) input the text you want to display in the linked cell (Sheet1 – A1), and (5) click “OK.”

Voilà! The hyperlink is now inserted in cell A1 of the sheet “Sheet2.” By default, the hyperlink text is underlined and colored in blue. Simply hover your cursor over the hyperlink to view the destination, file name, and the cell it leads to. And with just a simple click on the hyperlink, you’ll be redirected to the linked cell.

The HYPERLINK function

Another method to insert a hyperlink to another sheet is by using the HYPERLINK function. Simply enter the following formula in cell A1 of the sheet “Sheet2”:

=HYPERLINK(Sheet1!A1,"Sheet1 - A1")

The first argument of the function is the cell you want to navigate to, and the second argument is the text that appears in the link. The result is the same as the previous method, but now you have an option to use a formula.

Are you working with multiple workbooks and want to link cells between them? No problem! Let’s say you have the value “25” in cell A1 of the workbook “Workbook 1.xlsx,” and you want to create a link to that cell in the workbook “Workbook 2.xlsx.”

  1. In the “Workbook 2.xlsx” file, right-click on the cell where you want to insert the hyperlink (A1), and click on “Link.”
  2. In the “Insert Hyperlink” window, (1) select “Existing File or Web Page,” (2) choose “Current Folder” – or (3) select the folder containing your source file – and (4) select the file (Workbook 1.xlsx). (5) Enter the text you want to display in the linked cell (Workbook 1), and (6) click “OK.”

And voilà again! The hyperlink to the “Workbook 1.xlsx” file is now inserted in cell A1 of “Workbook 2.xlsx.” Hover your cursor over the cell to view the destination and the name of the linked file. Once you click on the link, you’ll be redirected to cell A1 of the source file. If the source file is not open, it will open once you click on the hyperlink.

Creating a hyperlink to another sheet in Google Sheets is just as simple:

  1. Go to another sheet (Sheet2), right-click on the cell where you want to insert the hyperlink (A1), and click on “Insert link.”
  2. Select the sheet you want to link to (Sheet1).

Voilà! The hyperlink is now inserted in cell A1 of the sheet “Sheet2.” By default, the hyperlink text is underlined and colored in blue. Clicking on a cell containing the link will show you the linked sheet. And with just one click on the hyperlink, you’ll be redirected to the linked sheet.

Link to another Google Sheets file

Let’s say you have the file “File 1” in Google Sheets, with the value “25” in cell A1, and you want to link that cell to the file “File 2.”

  1. Right-click on the URL address of the source file (File 1) and click on “Copy.”
  2. Now, go to another file (File 2), right-click on the cell where you want to insert the hyperlink (A1), and click on “Insert link.”
  3. Paste the copied link, enter the text you want to display, and click “Apply.”

Voilà once more! The hyperlink is now inserted in cell A1. Clicking on this cell will take you to the linked file (File 1).
