Do you ever wish you could have direct access to Google Sheets right from your desktop? Well, worry no more because we have a solution for you! In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to add Google Sheets to your desktop in just a few simple steps. No need to go through your browser anymore, you can open your files directly from your computer.

Adding Shortcuts to Your Desktop

The first step to accessing Google Sheets directly from your desktop is to create shortcuts to the files or folders you want. You can create as many shortcuts as you want to quickly access all your important files.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1

Open your preferred browser and go to the spreadsheet or Google Drive folder you want to add to your desktop. It doesn’t matter which browser you use, whether it’s Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox, these instructions will work.

Step 2

If your browser window is maximized to fill the entire screen, minimize it to a smaller size. You should be able to see both the browser and the desktop behind it at this point.

Step 3

Next, look at the URL bar of your browser. If there’s a small icon like a lock to the left of the URL, you can click on it and drag it to the desktop to create a shortcut. You can also double-click on the URL to select it and then drag it from the browser to the desktop.

Step 4

A shortcut to the spreadsheet or folder located at the URL will appear on your desktop.

Step 5

Repeat the above steps as many times as needed until you have all the shortcuts you want.

Using the Desktop Shortcuts

Now that you have created shortcuts on your desktop, here’s how to use them:

Step 1

Double-click on a shortcut on your desktop to open the Google spreadsheet in your default browser. Please note that this will only work if you are connected to the Internet as the file is still stored in the cloud.

Step 2

Drag and drop the shortcuts on your desktop to organize them as you would with other files on your computer. You can even add them to folders or rename them.

And voila! You now know how to add Google Sheets to your desktop and quickly access your important files. Take advantage of this handy feature to optimize your productivity!
