Copying and Pasting Images from Excel to Google Sheets: Simplified Method

Have you ever needed to transfer images from Excel to Google Sheets? Whether it’s an in-cell image or an over-the-cell image, I’m here to share a simple and straightforward method to accomplish this task effortlessly.

Copy and Paste Over-the-Cell Images

In the past, copying and pasting images from Excel to the Google Sheets Drawing tool could be quite tedious. But fear not! Now you can directly copy and paste over-the-cell images from Excel to Google Sheets without any hassle.

Example of an Over-the-Cell Image in Excel

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Right-click on the image in Excel and select “Copy” from the context menu.
  2. Open Google Sheets, right-click, and choose “Paste” from the context menu.

It’s as simple as that! No more detours or extra steps required.

Copy and Paste In-Cell Images

In-cell images in spreadsheets have their own charm as they move and resize with the cells, making them incredibly versatile. Unfortunately, copying and pasting in-cell images directly from Excel to Google Sheets isn’t possible. But fear not! I have a workaround solution for you.

  1. In Excel, navigate to the cell containing the desired image.
  2. Right-click on the image and select “Picture in cell” > “Picture over cells.” This will place the image over the cell.
  3. Right-click on the image again and click “Copy.”
  4. If you want to place the image back in the cell, click “Edit” > “Undo” to undo the previous step.
  5. Open Google Sheets and select the cell where you want to insert the in-cell image.
  6. Right-click and choose “Paste.”
  7. Click on the pasted image, and a three-vertical-dots menu will appear. Click on it and select “Put the image in the selected cell.”

And there you have it! Your in-cell image has successfully made its way from Excel to Google Sheets.

A Word of Caution

Although you can copy and paste multiple over-the-cell images from Excel to Google Sheets, I advise against doing so. Why, you may ask? Well, these images will be pasted as a group rather than individual images, which means you won’t be able to move them around independently. This might not be ideal for your spreadsheet needs.
