If you’ve ever tried selling a digital product on Etsy, you know that the platform requires you to upload a file when listing your item. But what if you only have a link to your Google Sheets? Don’t worry, I’ve got a solution for you!
1. Create Your Google Sheet
First things first, you need to create your Google Sheet. If you need some inspiration, here are a few examples of Google Sheets that I sell on Etsy.
2. Create a Shareable Link
Once you’ve created your Google Sheet, the next step is to create a shareable link. Here’s how to do it:
- Click the “Share” button in the top right corner of your Google Sheet.
- A window will pop up with the option “Get link”. Click on it.
- In the dropdown menu on the right, select “Viewer” to ensure your customers won’t be able to edit your master sheet.
- Click “Copy link”.
3. Modify Your Shareable Link
Next, you need to modify your link (this trick is a game-changer). Here’s how:
- Paste your link somewhere, like in the search bar or in a Google/Word document.
- Replace the word “edit” in the URL with “copy”.
By doing this, you’ll force your customers to make a copy of the Google Sheet that they can edit, while avoiding any changes to the original version.
I didn’t use this trick when I first started selling Google Sheets, and despite clear instructions, I would receive messages almost every week from people saying they didn’t know how to edit their spreadsheet. 4. Add Your Shareable Link to a Document and Download it as a PDF
Now that you have your modified link, you need to add it to a Google/Word document. This will be the document you send to your customers when they make a purchase. You can also include a thank-you note, additional instructions, or your logo to strengthen your brand image.
Once you’re done, download the document as a PDF and upload it to Etsy!
