If you’ve ever wondered how to hide columns in Google Sheets, you might be wondering if the same can be done with rows. The answer is yes! Hiding rows can be useful when dealing with long spreadsheets where you need to read each row individually. We’ll guide you through the steps to hide and show rows.
How to Hide Rows
Step 1: Select the row number you want to hide. If you want to select multiple rows, do one of the following:
- If selecting a range of continuous rows, hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and select the first and last row of the series. It should look something like this:
- If selecting a group of non-adjacent rows, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and select all the rows you want to hide. It should look something like this:
Step 2: Once the row is selected, right-click on the row number. A dropdown box will appear. Click on Hide row.
The row is now hidden.
If the rows form a continuous series, you will see the text Hide rows followed by the numbers of the rows to be hidden.
If the rows do not form a continuous series, simply click on the Hide rows command.
How to Show Hidden Rows
It is easy to spot if there are hidden rows, as there will be gaps in the row numbers on the left side of the spreadsheet. To show hidden rows, the steps are just as simple and quick.
Method 1: One-click Method
When you hover the cursor over the tiny pair of arrows that indicate the location of hidden rows, a box with two arrows will appear. Click on it.
Method 2: Right-click Method
Sometimes you may not be able to use Method 1. Here’s another way to display hidden rows.
Step 1: Press SHIFT or CTRL on the keyboard to select the two rows that border the hidden rows. In the example here, rows 8 and 12 surround hidden rows 9 to 11. Select rows 8 and 12.
Step 2: Right-click on the selected row numbers. A dropdown box will appear. Click on Unhide rows.
How to Hide Rows in Google Sheets
To hide one or more rows, follow these steps:
- Click on the row you want to hide or drag your mouse along the row numbers to highlight multiple rows.
- Right-click on the highlighted row(s).
- Choose “Hide row”.
- The rows will be automatically hidden.
