After creating a chart in Google Sheets, you may want to modify its size, move it to a different location on the spreadsheet, or even move it to another sheet. This tutorial will teach you how to move and resize charts in Google Sheets, giving you full control over the presentation of your data.

Moving a Chart in Google Sheets

Step 1: Click on an empty area of the chart

Using your mouse cursor, click on an empty area of your chart. Make sure to click on an empty area within the chart itself. The border around the entire chart will be highlighted. Once you see the border appear around the chart, you’ll know it’s ready to be moved.

Step 2: Click and hold the left mouse button and drag the chart to the desired location

You can use your mouse to drag the selected chart to the desired location on the spreadsheet. Once you have placed the chart in the correct position, click on an empty cell on the spreadsheet and the chart will be deselected.

Result: The chart will be positioned at the location of your choice.

Alternative Method: An alternative method to move the chart to a specific location is to use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move and reposition the chart.

Resizing a Chart in Google Sheets

Step 1: Click on an empty area of the chart

Select the chart that you want to resize and ensure that circular resizing handles appear along the chart’s border.

Step 2: Use the resizing handles to adjust the chart size

The circular resizing handles along the chart’s border allow you to resize the entire chart or make horizontal and vertical adjustments to the chart’s size. To resize the entire chart, hover over one of the corner resizing handles and drag it to enlarge or shrink the chart. When you see the mouse pointer change to a double arrow, you’ll know you can resize the chart.

To make horizontal or vertical adjustments to the chart’s size, use the resizing handles located at the top, bottom, or sides of the chart to make the appropriate modifications.

Moving a Chart to a New Sheet in Google Sheets

Sometimes, you may not want to display your chart on the same sheet as the chart’s source data, and instead, prefer it to appear on its own tab. To do this, follow these steps:

Step 1: Click on an empty area of the chart

Use your mouse cursor to click on an empty area of your chart. Make sure to click on an empty area within the chart itself. The border around the entire chart will be highlighted. Once you see the border appear around the chart, you’ll know it’s ready to be modified.

Step 2: Click the Options button on the chart

After selecting your chart, an Options button will appear in the top-right corner of the chart. This button will only appear when you have selected a chart. The options included in this tab are Edit Chart, Delete Chart, Download, Publish Chart, Copy Chart, Move to Own Sheet, and Alternative Text.

Step 3: Click on the “Move to Own Sheet” option

Click on the “Move to Own Sheet” button, and the chart will open in a separate tab.

Result: The new sheet will appear in a separate spreadsheet.
