Are you tired of the tedious process of importing data into Google Sheets? Well, we have some good news for you! With the help of the CData Server API, you can now easily import Smartsheet data into Google Sheets without any hassle.

What is the CData Server API?

The CData Server API is a lightweight web application that runs on your server and provides secure access to over 200 data sources, including Smartsheet. You can deploy the .NET edition on Azure in just 3 steps, or the Java edition on Heroku or any other Java servlet container. The API server can also be deployed on an Amazon EC2 AMI instance.

Why Use Web Services?

While Google Sheets offers excellent real-time collaboration, it can be challenging to work with data from different sources, including Smartsheet. Manual importing or re-entering data into Sheets can quickly result in outdated spreadsheets.

The API Server solves this problem by allowing you to directly connect your Google Sheets to Smartsheet data in real-time. No more manual copying, formatting, and importing data into Sheets. With the ImportData formula, you can easily query the API Server and retrieve Smartsheet data directly into your spreadsheet.

Is Web Services Secure?

Security is a top priority when it comes to accessing sensitive data. The CData Server API ensures that you have complete control over your data by running on your own servers, inside or outside your firewall. Additionally, the API Server supports standard security protocols like TLS/SSL and major authentication methods, guaranteeing the confidentiality and authenticity of your data.

How to Import Smartsheet Data into Google Sheets?

Importing Smartsheet data into Google Sheets is as easy as following these 3 simple steps:

  1. Connect to the API Server from the admin console. If you need assistance, refer to the getting started guide in the help documentation.

  2. Authenticate your request with the authentication token of a user authorized to access the API Server’s OData endpoint. You also need to authorize access from the Google servers by configuring access controls in the Security tab.

For security reasons, the API Server does not allow setting the authentication token in the default URL. Therefore, you will need to enable this feature by modifying the appropriate settings.
  1. In your Google Sheets spreadsheet, use the ImportData formula to request the CSV file from the API Server’s OData endpoint. You can specify the response format with the @csv query parameter. Google will periodically update the formula results to ensure that your spreadsheet contains up-to-date data.

Here’s an example formula to import the “Sheet_Event_Plan_Budget” dataset into your Google Sheets:

=ImportData("https://your-server/api.rsc/Sheet_Event_Plan_Budget?@csv&@authtoken=your-authtoken")

Now you can collaborate in real-time with your Smartsheet data directly in Google Sheets with the help of the CData Server API. For more information, visit Crawlan.com.
